Contemporary and culturally sensitive counsellor and psychotherapist.
My aim is to provide access to contemporary and culturally sensitive longer-term counselling and psychotherapy. I welcome those who identify as LGBTQIA+ and/or non binary.
As a BAME practitioner and also speaking from personal experience, I have found that access to culturally sensitive therapy and mental health support services, particularly for BAME communities in Britain, has been and continues to be disproportionate and lacking when compared to the rest of society.
Where there is support available, there can be a lack of awareness and sensitivity to the different nuances and traditions of different cultures, which can leave the person seeking help feeling unheard or misunderstood. Or often, treatment is heavily western-influenced and does not resonate with the specific cultural backgrounds of the individuals seeking help.
My approach is feminist and culturally sensitive. With me, you will find that I take into consideration your gender, race, cultural background, history, religion and/or sexuality as they are all an important part of who you are and your story. Together we can look at how you can heal, thrive and live your life in way that is authentic to you with an awareness of the things that are preventing you from doing so.
My experience includes working with the charities; The NAZ Project and The Cassel Centre. I spent my time here working with issues around sexuality, racial identity, childhood trauma and abuse, domestic violence, PTSD in adults, complex PTSD, honor based violence, burnout, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, personality disorders, sexual abuse, racism and racial abuse, fatigue, paranoia, substance abuse, workplace conflict and/or bullying, childhood bullying, relationship breakdowns and conflict with family members.
